When Brianna was little, she would sometime "whine" about the smallest thing. There was a bird at our house that would utter a two-note call that sounded like it was saying "whiner". It made Brianna so mad when she would hear it and I would remind her what it was saying about her. Even in 1994 when our entire family went camping out west...we would hear the "whiner bird" and Brianna would just shake her head when she heard it. I didn't know until this year what bird made the "whiner" bird call. It is the Black Capped Chickadee. Sue and I made a trip to Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Colorado this past month and ended up spending Brianna's birthday in Yellowstone National Park. I heard the "whiner bird" call out to me and it reminded me of Brianna. But so much has changed...it's not Brianna who is whining now...it's me. I'm missing Brianna and I'll never stop missing her. Perhaps it's the Black Capped Chickadee who is letting me know that Bri hasn't forgotten me either.
